Five second review of “The Passion”

Sunday, February 29th, 2004

I absolutely hated it. I left the theater angry with Gibson and his film. It’s too late to write any more. I’ll go into more detail soon. I have a root canal scheduled for the morning. I’ll probably enjoy it more than “The Passion.”

Review of “The Passion of Christ” will be coming soon

Thursday, February 26th, 2004

I plan to see the film this weekend if all goes according to plans. I have some preliminary thoughts based on what I have seen reported and discussed. Perhaps one the more perceptive reviews was that of Andrew Sullivan. I think Andy, with whom I seldom agree, has it right here. He also links to this perceptive article by Leon Wieseltier. Readers will note that I am not likely to write a favorable view of Gibson’s film.

Missing manufacturing jobs found!

Tuesday, February 24th, 2004

The adminstration has located the manufacturing jobs thought to have been lost as a result of the recession and our present president’s policies. John Dingell wrote Mankiw a great letter on the subject.

Kevin Drum asks,

Can you make a good song out of “weapons of mass destruction related program activities”? I sure couldn’t, but Bill Maher’s version is pretty funny.

I love the wig but Bill probably shouldn’t give up his regular job for a career in music.

Up in Plame

Thursday, February 5th, 2004

There’s been plenty of chatter over recent days that some indictments were coming down the pike in the Plame matter. Now UPI’s Richard Sale seems to have the goods.

This from a story just out …

Federal law enforcement officials said that they have developed hard evidence of possible criminal misconduct by two employees of Vice President Dick Cheney’s office related to the unlawful exposure of a CIA officer’s identity last year. The investigation, which is continuing, could lead to indictments, a Justice Department official said. According to these sources, John Hannah and Cheney’s chief of staff Lewis “Scooter” Libby were the two Cheney employees.
“We believe that Hannah was the major player in this,” one federal law enforcement officer said. Calls to the vice president’s office were not returned. Hannah and Libby did not return calls. The strategy of the FBI is to make clear to Hannah “that he faces a real possibility of doing jail time,” as a way to pressure him to name superiors, one federal law enforcement official said.

This is, to put it mildly, awfully big news if it bears out. After all, who would be Scooter’s and Hannah’s superior?

Here’s the whole report.

And here’s someone who thinks we should insist, no matter what the facts may be, that Cheney is innocent.
